Pinterest is a pinboard style photo sharing website. It allows Pinterest users to go to websites and pin images they like to their board and they can go to other users boards and pin images that they have pinned – this is known as a re-pin.The problem? It allows Pinterest users to share images that they might not or do not have permission for. Authors of these images, like photographers, may not want others sharing their copyrighted work.

So, in order to prevent this, Pinterest has created an meta tag that website owners can use on their website that blocks pinning of their images.

How-to Block Pinterest from Pinning Your Images

Add the following meta tag to the head (between and) of your web page:

<meta name="pinterest" content="nopin" />

The Result of the Meta Tag

Now, when a Pinterest user tries to pin an image from your website, they will get this message:

This site doesn’t allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!
